UP News: Gorakhpur Braces for Devastation as Rapti River Water Levels Rise | ABP News

The rivers in eastern Uttar Pradesh are already in spate, and the additional water flowing in from Nepal has exacerbated the situation, causing significant concern. The Ghaghra (Saryu) and Rapti rivers are nearing their danger marks, increasing the risk of floods in low-lying areas. Both rivers are expected to surpass the danger mark within the next 12 hours. Currently, the Saryu river is flowing just 0.52 cm below the danger mark, while the Rapti river is 46 cm below the danger level. In response to the impending threat, local administrations have been put on high alert. Gorakhpur District Magistrate Krishna Karunesh convened a meeting with officials and issued guidelines for flood preparedness. Gautam Gupta, Gorakhpur Hall District Disaster Expert, reported that according to the Central Water Commission and the Chief Engineer of Gandak Irrigation and Water Resources Department, the Saryu river at Ayodhya Bridge is currently at 91.95 meters, surpassing the warning level of 91.73 meters. Meanwhile, the Rapti river is flowing at 74.38 meters in Gorakhpur district, just below the warning level of 74.98 meters. The situation remains critical as water levels continue to rise.
