UP cabinet to set up 218 new fast track courts for rape, child abuse cases

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet has decided to set up 218 new fast track courts to deal with cases related to rape and child sexual abuse and provide a speedy justice. Of these, 144 courts will only hear rape cases. 74  courts will hear cases related to  Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO). The move comes after the BJP government in the state faced heavy criticism after the Unnao rape & murder case in which the victim was burnt alive a year after she filed a rape case.
