Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Ukraine on August 23, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine in 30 years. Before traveling to Ukraine, Modi will be in Poland on August 21-22, the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in 45 years. This visit comes a month after Modi's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During his time in Poland, Modi will engage with the Indian community and local businessmen. He will also visit monuments that reflect historical ties between Jamnagar and Kolhapur. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has reiterated India's commitment to diplomacy and dialogue to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and achieve lasting peace. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office has issued an official statement about Modi's upcoming visit. The statement highlights that this will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine since its independence in 1991. The visit is expected to focus on discussions of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and several agreements are anticipated to be signed. Last month, Ukraine's Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak expressed hope that Modi could play a crucial role in establishing peace in Ukraine. India's stance of not condemning Russia following the 2022 conflict had drawn criticism from several Western nations. Modi's Moscow visit coincided with the NATO summit in early July, where the alliance’s support for Ukraine and concerns about India’s relations with Russia were prominently discussed.
