Kolkata Doctor Case: Why Did Mamata Banerjee's Meeting With Doctors Fail to Proceed? | ABP News

In Kolkata, West Bengal, the case of the trainee doctor's rape and murder has deeply troubled Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who has expressed her distress publicly, stating that she is unable to sleep over the issue. Despite this, the strike by junior doctors demanding justice for the victim's family continues. On Saturday (September 14, 2024), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee met with the junior doctors, but the meeting did not progress as hoped. The doctors have stated that they will continue their strike until all the perpetrators are brought to justice and the victim's family receives the due legal redress. They are calling for swift action and severe punishment for all involved. On Saturday, doctors arrived at the Chief Minister's official residence for a meeting but were kept waiting outside for a significant period. When Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee eventually came outside to speak with them, she invited them inside for a discussion. However, the doctors demanded that the meeting be live-streamed. Chief Minister Banerjee expressed her inability to accommodate this request, and when the doctors insisted on recording the meeting, the Chief Minister agreed to record it but stated that it would not be released until approval from the Supreme Court was obtained. The doctors did not accept this condition.
