Kanpur Train Derailment: 'Accident Happened... But No One from Administration Came,' Says Sabarmati Express' Passenger

A train accident occurred between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations in Uttar Pradesh. The Sabarmati Express, train number 19168, derailed in a block section between the two stations. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported from the scene of the accident. Buses have arrived at the site to transport passengers to Kanpur. The accident took place when the Sabarmati Express was en route from Kanpur. It derailed just a short distance away between Kanpur and Bhimsen stations. The loco pilot stated that initially, it appears that a boulder struck the engine, severely damaging and bending the engine's cattle guard, which led to the train's derailment. However, the exact cause will only be determined after a thorough investigation. The incident caused panic among passengers, who were terrified and scrambled to ensure their safety, leading to chaos on the train. Upon receiving news of the accident, Kanpur DM Rakesh Kumar Singh and ADM rushed to the site to assess the situation, and rescue and relief operations were initiated immediately. Kanpur DM Rakesh Kumar Singh reported that as soon as the information was received, the administration reached the site. A total of 22 coaches of the train had derailed. A few people sustained minor scratches, but no one was seriously injured. Ambulances were called to transport the injured to the hospital, and buses were arranged to take the passengers to their destinations or nearby railway stations. The Indian Railways has also issued emergency helpline numbers in response to the Sabarmati Express train accident. The Samajwadi Party criticized Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw over the incident. SP leader IP Singh remarked that all the coaches of the Sabarmati Express, traveling from Varanasi to Gujarat, had derailed in Kanpur, and it seems like there isn’t a day without a train accident. He criticized the Railway Minister for downplaying such incidents and questioned when the ineffective Railway Minister would resign.
