Breaking News: 'Why is our culture in danger in Assam,' CM Himanta Sparks Tension With Post On X

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has recently addressed concerns regarding the preservation of Assam’s cultural heritage in a tweet on social media platform X. He questioned, “Why is our culture in danger in Assam?” Sarma pointed out that at Barpeta Satra, one of the state's most significant religious sites, prayers were first offered and then a mosque was constructed. In response to such developments, the government has imposed a ban on the sale of land near important cultural and religious sites. Sarma emphasized that constructing a mosque near an ancient temple or starting worship near a historic Eidgah can disrupt the societal balance. He urged that officials should consider these sensitive issues carefully. The government’s decision to halt land purchases near key locations aims to protect and maintain the integrity of Assam’s cultural and historical landmarks. This measure reflects the administration's commitment to preserving the state’s traditional heritage amidst changing dynamics.
