Breaking News: Amid Controversy, PM Modi to Send Chadar to Ajmer Dargah for 11th Time Today

On Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 6 PM, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally hand over a ceremonial chadar (sacred cloth) to Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju and BJP Minority Morcha President Jamal Siddiqui. This chadar will be offered at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, a revered Sufi saint. PM Modi has upheld this tradition every year since taking office, sending a chadar as a gesture of respect and unity on the occasion of the Urs. This marks the 11th time the Prime Minister is continuing this practice. Taking to the social media platform X, PM Modi shared a few photographs from his meeting with a delegation of the Muslim community. He stated, “Met with a delegation from the Muslim community. During our conversation, I presented the sacred chadar that will be placed at the revered Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.” This annual offering symbolizes the Prime Minister’s emphasis on fostering communal harmony and honoring the rich spiritual heritage of India. The Urs at Ajmer Sharif is a significant occasion, drawing devotees from across the country and beyond to pay homage to the Sufi saint, revered as the “Gharib Nawaz”.
