BJP-SP spokesperson spar over fuel price hike

For 19 straight days, the price of petrol and diesel have been on the rise. The BJP government at the Centre claims that the taxes on petrol and diesel have been increased to fill the government's coffers so that they can fund the schemes that benefit poor. Which begs the question, then why was BJP against rising fuel prices under UPA? Also, is it necessary to impose a burden on the middle class to benefit the poor?
