2008 Ahmedabad serial blasts case: Death Sentence for 38 Convicts, 11 Get Life Term
A special Gujarat court pronounced a death sentence on 38 out of 49 convicts in the Ahmedabad serial bomb blast case today. Eleven other convicts have been awarded life imprisonment. Death sentence to the 38 convicts has been awarded under section 302 of the Indian penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Special Judge A R Patel also awarded a compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the family members of people killed in the serial blast. The court last week had pronounced 49 accused guilty of the crime, while 28 others were acquitted.
