Mumbai woman biker gets crushed under a truck while trying to avoid pothole

In a tragic event, a Mumbai woman who was leading a group of bikers was crushed under a truck on Sunday while was she tried to avoid a pothole on the Jawhar-Dahanu highway.

34-year-old Jagruti Viraj Hogale was on way to Jawhar, popular for its waterfalls, for a weekend getaway when she mowed down by the vehicle.

The incident happened when the group of women bikers was riding under heavy rains. Jagruti could not spot a pothole in front of her while overtaking a truck. The bike skid and she slipped in front of the truck that unfortunately ran over her. Doctors declared her dead before admission.

“She should have shown better judgement while riding her bike. Had she swerved to the right, she probably could have been saved as she was wearing a helmet,” Kasa assistant police inspector Jayprakash Gute said was quoted in a HT report.

Superintendent of Palghar police Manjunath Singh told Mumbai daily Mid-day, "The truck driver has been detained and a case under sections 304 (A) (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against him. We have seized the truck and are investigating the cause of her death."
