29 arrested, section 144 imposed in Mumbai's Aarey amid protest over cutting trees| Top 25
The entire Aarey Colony was cordoned off by police on morning after hundreds of green activists tried to stop felling of trees in the area by the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (MMRCL) for the Metro-3 line rake depot.
A local court on Saturday sent 29 people to judicial custody for five days while police detained 55 others in connection with protests against the cutting of trees in Aarey colony area.
According to the police, as many as 100 people were arrested out of which 29 were produced before the Borivali Court, which sent them to judicial custody.
