The Supreme Court rejected a petition asking the court to give directions for the purchase of essential food. The petition said that even though kirana and vegetable stores are open, there are no clear regulation on how to reach the shops. Because of this, there is either overcrowding in marketplaces or police atrocities on people. Therefore, the court needs to direct the government for clearer rules. The petition by Guwahati based lawyer Amit Goyal also elaborated on some incidents in which police had used excessive force on people who had stepped out of their homes to buy essentials. It was also specified in the petition that people become irresponsible and crowd. For this reason, the local government should provide passes to those who are out to purchase goods for family needs. The petition demanded ease in delivery of essentials such as grocery, vegetables, milk and other necessary items from e-commerce sites.
