Chennai: AIADMK leaders and cadre under the leadership of Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami staged a protest against the hike in taxes and increase in the price of essential commodities at the Collectorate in Chennai on Wednesday. This is the first protest held by EPS after taking over as the interim general secretary of AIADMK.


The AIADMK members held protests in various districts under the leadership of district secretaries on Monday and Tuesday. As a continuation, the AIADMK leaders held a protest in Chennai on Wednesday condemning the hike in electricity bill, property tax, increase in the price of essential commodities and over failing to fulfill promises made in the DMK manifesto. 


The protest was attended by senior AIADMK leaders Minister Jayakumar, C Ponnaiyan, Dindigul Sreenivasan, SP Velumani, R Udhayakumar, Anbazhagan, Valarmathi, Gokula Indira, Pollachi Jayakumar and OS Manian.

Addressing the event, EPS said, "The motive of the protest is that the DMK took over the government 14 months ago but in these months, people are put to suffer a lot. There is a hike in electricity bill, property tax and an increase in price of essential commodities among others. Hence, we are holding the protest condemning the price hike of the essentials."

The protest hit the traffic for a while near the collectorate in Chennai.
