Amid growing concerns over Monkeypox, Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Sunday said that all the overseas Chess players arriving in Chennai for 44th Chess Olympiad will have to get tested for both Covid-19 and Monkeypox diseases.


He also asserted that so far not a single Monkeypox case has been reported in Tamil Nadu. He assured that all the international travellers are being tested for Covid-19 and Monkeypox.

Speaking to mediapersons he said as many as 50,000 vaccination camps have been set up in the state on Sunday. Till 11 AM, 2,64,597 doses have been administered. "We are encouraging the masses to take the booster dose," Minister Ma Subramanian said, as quoted by news agency ANI.


Meanwhile, the first Monkeypox case was detected in Delhi on Sunday. A 34-year-old man with no travel history has been confirmed to test positive for the virus. With over 17,000 people testing positive across the globe in 74 countries for the Monkeypox virus, the WHO on Saturday declared it to be a global health emergency.


The Health Ministry issued guidelines after the first Monkeypox case was detected in Kerala. The first three Monkeypox cases have been detected in Kerala while the fourth was confirmed in Delhi on Sunday.
