WATCH: 2,910 Laptops Topple In Domino Fashion. It's A New Guinness World Record

Guinness World Record feat by USA’s Technology Recyclers surpasses the previous record of 752 laptops toppled in domino fashion, achieved by Jens Demol and Out of Use NV in Belgium on Nov 7, 2021.

Over 2,000 discarded, out-of-use laptops were recently put to a unique use by a company in the USA — they were all lined up to attempt the Guinness World Records title for toppling most laptops in a domino fashion. The feat was achieved on May 13, at the Technology Recyclers’ headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The curvy line had a total of 2,910 laptops looking to break the existing record, and the devices were donated by businesses, organisations and individuals from the community in Indianapolis, according to an article on the Guinness World Records website.

By toppling 2,910 laptops in a domino fashion, Technology Recyclers’ feat surpassed the previous record of 752, which was created by Jens Demol and Out of Use NV (both from Belgium) in Beringen, Belgium, on November 7, 2021.

According to the article on the GWR website, Technology Recyclers is a computer and electronics recycling company that decided to attempt the record title “as a fun way to highlight the importance of what they do”.

How The Guinness World Record Was Created

The UN environment programme says 50 million tonnes of electronic and electrical waste (e-waste) is produced every year, outweighing all of the commercial airliners ever made, and only 20% of this gets recycled.

This gave Technology Recyclers the motivation to attempt the Guinness World Records title, which they believed would promote the importance of certified ethical recycling, the GWR website said.

The company said though the number they needed to surpass was only 752, the team managed to collect much more devices and continued lining them up. They had to limit the count when the laptops started to take a lot of space, and time.

After some accidents and “a few unplanned starts", the final event saw success and a Guinness World Records title.

We are now going to utilize the pictures, videos and stories to grow the impact in Indiana and the importance of computer and electronics recycling everywhere.
