'Is This Real?' Gucci, Adidas Launch Rs 1 Lakh Umbrella That Isn't Waterproof, Face Flak
"Please note, this item is not waterproof and is meant for sun protection or decorative use," Gucci said.
New Delhi: Luxury fashion houses Gucci and Adidas, which are known to be the leading brands of sportswear, have launched a very expensive umbrella in the Chinese market. The cost of this one umbrella is $ 1,644 i.e. Rs 1,27,746. This umbrella is now facing criticism from people in China. Apart from its high price, this umbrella does not protect people from rain, as it is not waterproof. It appears to be 'Sun Umbrella' in appearance.
According to the Gucci website, "Part of the adidas x Gucci line, this sun umbrella includes the Interlocking G and Trefoil design." The Web contrasts with the three white stripes, and the GG emblem blends with the trefoil in this adidas and Gucci collaboration.
Gucci said the umbrella has a carved birch-wood handle, green and red webs, and a G-shaped handle. However, this item is not waterproof and can be used for sun protection or decorative purposes.
"Please note, this item is not waterproof and is meant for sun protection or decorative use," Gucci added.
Soon after this umbrella went viral on social media, many people started asking why an umbrella that doesn't even stop the rain was being sold at such high prices. A user on social media wrote that Gucci and Adidas are making headlines in China for selling an umbrella for $1,644, which doesn't even stop the rain.
This week, A hashtag on Weibo which translates to "the collaboration umbrella being sold for 11,100 yuan is not waterproof," has had more than 140 million views on Weibo, a Twitter-like platform. China has a significant demand for luxury goods and is on the verge of becoming the world's largest luxury market by 2025, according to research by consulting firm Bain & Co.

Imagine buying a $1600 umbrella as a status symbol, discovering it doesn’t stop rain, then finding out it was never intended to work in the first place

I’d rather get publicly swindled out of $1600 in a low level ponzi scheme than be seen holding a gucci umbrella https://t.co/HD5uXZf51N

163 USD for an umbrella that doesn’t work will generate an outrage no matter where it’s sold.
