Railways Ministry Lauds First Woman Ticket Checker To Collect Rs 1 Crore Fine From Passengers

Thousands of people travel with the Indian Railways every day after booking a valid railway ticket. However, there are many who avoid taking tickets or break rules at the platforms and inside the train for which they are fined. Rosaline Arokia Mary, a chief ticket inspector of Southern Railway has created a record of collecting fines of over Rs 1 crore from passengers travelling without tickets.

The Railway Ministry has praised Mary for collecting fines of Rs 1.03 crore from non-ticketed travellers. Taking to microblogging site Twitter, the ministry wrote, "Showing resolute commitment to her duties, Smt. Rosaline Arokia Mary, CTI (Chief Ticket Inspector) of @GMSRailway, becomes the first woman on the ticket-checking staff of Indian Railways to collect fines of ₹ 1.03 crore from irregular/non-ticketed travellers."

In the picture Mary can be seen fully engrossed in collecting fines and examining tickets of passengers at various locations and inside train compartments.

The post immediately went viral and has amassed 36,000 views so far and tons of comments.

"Mumbai needs the service of Smt.Rosaline Arokia Mary especially at FC ladies during peak hours (both morning and evening). Lot of unauthorised travellers are traveling in ladies FC, very pathetic condition of honest ladies FC travellers. Please send her at Mumbai CENTRAL RLY," wrote another user.

"Congratulations, Ma’am! A job well done!,' wrote a third.

While a fourth wrote, "Group C and D staff are working tirelessly but the officers are busy looting the railway. No action is taken by the Ministry even after various complaints."
