A viral Instagram video shows a heated exchange at Nainital's Lovers’ Point, where tourists were confronted for littering. The incident has sparked widespread debate on responsible tourism.

A viral Instagram video, shared by Shinjini Sengupta, has brought this issue into the spotlight. The video shows a heated exchange between locals and tourists in Nainital, where the visitors were accused of littering at Lovers’ Point. The heated argument over littering at Lovers’ Point, Nainital, has gone viral on social media, sparking widespread debate on responsible tourism. The incident, which occurred on December 14 at around 3 PM, was captured and shared by Instagram user Shinjini Sengupta.

Detailing the episode, Sengupta wrote, "This is Lovers' Point, Nainital, 14th December, 15:00. These people cut a birthday cake and threw the tissue papers on the road. Next, they threw the cake's bag." Sengupta explained that when her sister politely asked the tourists to throw their trash in a nearby dustbin, their request was dismissed. "My sister intervened, asking them politely to throw it in the dustbin.

The lady in red claimed there was no dustbin. The shopkeeper then approached her with the same request, mentioning that police fine people for littering," she added.

The situation escalated when the family refused to comply, with one of them throwing a plastic bag into the adjacent valley instead. Sengupta wrote, "The guy (their driver) then picked up the plastic bag and threw it into the adjacent valley. Ab cake ke box ke liye my sister told them again. That's when the situation escalated. The dustbin was hardly 5 feet away. Yet they argued. Let's find them and ensure they don't repeat this. At the very least, let's aim to be better citizens."

The video also captured a family member accusing the sisters of "fighting with random people," to which they responded, "We were not fighting. I told you several times, 'Please throw it in the dustbin.' You said there was no dustbin." In response, one of the tourists retorted, "Mind your own business."

The incident has sparked a larger conversation about the behavior of tourists in environmentally sensitive areas. Many netizens applauded the sisters for taking a stand against littering, while others stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness to preserve the natural beauty of popular destinations like Nainital.
