Woman Denied Food At Charity Stall Outside Mumbai Hospital For Not Chanting 'Jai Shri Ram' — WATCH

The incident took place near Tata Hospital on Jerbai Wadia Road. The stall was organised to serve free food for patients and those accompanying them.

A Muslim woman was reportedly denied food at a charity stall put up outside a hospital in Mumbai for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’. In a video of the incident, which has gone viral, the woman can be heard arguing with an elderly man serving food at the makeshift stall. He tells her to either chant 'Jai Shri Ram' or to exit the line. The incident took place near Tata Hospital on Jerbai Wadia Road. The stall was organised at an NGO to serve free food for patients and those accompanying them.

The person recording the video asks the man what the problem is, and the hijab-clad woman jumps in and says that he had asked her to say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ to receive the food. The camera person then tells the woman that if she didn't want to chant, she shouldn't take the food. As the man at the stall notices that the incident is being filmed, he asks the camera person, who identifies himself as a journalist, to stop recording.

The video, which is in two parts, has received over 3 lakh views and hundreds of comments.

One commenter said, “That man is a joke. The NGO should be informed of his behaviour. Shame on him and shame on the NGO. If anyone knows which NGO this is, we can escalate this matter. Absolutely shameful behaviour. Is this what Hinduism is? Is this what Ram stands for? Disgusting.”

Another user said, “They are not NGO if they are refusing to give food if a person is not chanting slogan they want! Disgusting.”

“Shame on them, no community does this when feeding everyone in need,” read another comment.

In the second part of the video, the camera person speaks to bystanders and asks them whether they had chanted 'Jai Shri Ram' to get the meal. To this, one man says he had. At the same time, another man, likely a hospital staffer, says it is “unfair and wrong to make such rules". He adds, “If you are here to distribute food, do that and leave.”

To this, the man at the stall chimes in and asks, “Who said that? If they say ‘Jai Shri Ram’ only then they will be served food.”

The other man retorts, “You have decided to serve food, this isn’t being done by the hospital”.

An argument then breaks out between the elderly man and the camera person because the former says the woman is a "badmash (miscreant)", but the latter says, “you called her an ’aatankwadi (terrorist)'”.
