Telangana: Mild Tensions Persist After Clash Over Loud Music Near Religious Place In Hyderabad Outskirts

Tensions persist following a dispute over playing loud music near a religious site in Chengicherla on the outskirts of Telangana's Hyderabad city

Members of two different communities clashed and hurled stones at each other following a dispute over playing loud music near a religious site in Chengicherla on the outskirts of Telangana's Hyderabad city, police confirmed on Monday. The tension escalated on Sunday evening when a scuffle broke out between the two groups, resulting in minor injuries to four individuals.

The altercation ensued after one group used loudspeakers near the religious place during pre-Holi celebrations, prompting objections from members of the other community attending prayers, news agency PTI reported.

Law enforcement authorities intervened to disperse the groups, who engaged in a physical altercation. The use of loudspeakers without prior permission from the police and local authorities violated regulations, particularly with the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in force in Telangana due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on May 13.

According to a senior police official from the Rachakonda Police Commissionerate, two cases have been registered, and investigations are ongoing to ascertain the facts surrounding the incident. The situation, however, remains under control, the official assured, according to PTI's report.

The official further told PTI that they were verifying videos and based on the collection of evidence the cases would be finalised.

Telangana News: Union Minister G Kishan Reddy Visit Clash Site, Claims 30 Tribal Women Injured

In response to the clash, members of certain Hindu organisations staged a protest on Monday, demanding the arrest of those involved in the assault on women during the altercation. As the protesters attempted to advance beyond barricades, police employed mild force to disperse them, leading to slogans being raised by the demonstrators, PTI reported.

Meanwhile, Union Minister and Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy visited the area on Monday to assess the situation firsthand, the report stated. A purported video of his interaction with locals surfaced on social media.

"The communal mafias of the slaughter house have beaten and pelted stones at tribal Hindu women in Chengicherla village. Around 30 women have been injured. Many have received head injuries and stitches. Even after 24 hours, no one has been arrested because police in Telangana work under Majlis party's (All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen) directions," Union Minister G Kishan Reddy claimed, as per PTI.

"I want to ask the Election Commission under which the police are working why cases of attempt to murder and tribal atrocities have not been invoked after tribal women were attacked and insulted," he added stating that only "petty cases" have been lodged.

He said he will write to the ECI demanding a high-level probe into the matter.
