Telangana Governor Assures Tribals Of Support In Addressing Their Problems At The Centre

The governor gave the assurance while interacting with the tribals at Bhadrachalam town in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Wednesday assured the tribals that she will promptly bring their concerns to the attention of the Central Government. In a visit to the Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, she interacted with adivasis at a special interactive session in the temple town of Bhadrachalam. At the event, tribal leaders and other public representatives expressed a host of grievances related to their community to the Governor.

According to an IANS report, Bhadrachalam MLA P. Veeraiah informed the Governor on the problems faced by the people. He urged her to use her good offices to ensure that Telangana gets back the five gram panchayats merged with Andhra Pradesh.

Veeraiah told the Governor that the people of these gram panchayats were facing problems due to floods in the Godavari River. He requested that the Governor find a permanent solution to the problem of floods.

The Governor assured the tribals who expressed their desire to have the five gram panchayats merged with Telangana, that she would raise the issue with the Central Government and take appropriate measures to resolve it.

Tamilisai Soundararajan reached Bhadrachalam from Hyderabad on Wednesday morning by train. She offered prayers at the Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple. Temple officials and priests welcomed her.

The Governor told the media that she prayed for the well-being of the people of the country. The Governor later participated in public programmes and the District Red Cross Conference. After the programmes at Bhadrachalam, she visited Khammam to participate in the Y20 workshop at Sri Chaitanya Institute of Technology and Research (formally KITS, Khammam), Ponnekal.

It may be recalled that after massive floods in Bhadrachalam and surrounding villages last year, Telangana's transport minister, P. Ajay Kumar, demanded that seven mandals (blocks) that merged with Andhra Pradesh in 2014 be handed back to Telangana. After the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh to carve out Telangana state, the Centre issued an ordinance merging seven mandals of Telangana with Andhra Pradesh to facilitate the construction of the Polavaram project across Godavari in the neighbouring state, IANS reported.
