Telangana: Covid-19 Cases May Peak By The End Of January, Says Director of Public Health

The Director of Public Health has requested all the political parties to cancel all public activities for the next 4 weeks

Hyderabad: Amid an exponential surge in Covid cases due to Omicron, Telangana Director of Public Health G Srinivasa Rao remarked on Thursday that the next four weeks are critical. He advised everyone to be cautious.

Srinivasa Rao stated that everyone must follow the medical department's Covid-19 restrictions, including wearing a mask and maintaining a physical distance. Those who have not been vaccinated are advised to get vaccinated immediately. He added that people with Corona symptoms should be referred to a physician rather than self-medication.

The DPH has urged people to buy Home Rapid Antigen Kits and test right away if even the tiniest of symptoms of Covid arise. "RAT Kits are also readily available in the PHCs." He stated that the state government has prepared 2 crore RAT kits and 1 crore Home isolation kits.

He said that the number of cases in the state had increased tremendously since January 1, and more cases have been registered in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). The cases have increased by more than 4 times in the last 5 days.

"The Omicron variant spreads six times faster than the Delta variant. But the symptoms of omicron disease are typical. The victims recovered in just 5 days. 90 per cent of people have no symptoms at all," said Srinivas Rao.

"We've noticed that many persons who have tested positive for covid are being admitted to hospitals despite having no symptoms. Only patients with oxygen levels below 93 must be hospitalised," he advised.

He reminded the state's private hospitals that if they are detected billing patients unduly or doing unnecessary tests, they will be directly penalised without warning this time.

All political parties have been asked to suspend all public activities for the next four weeks, he concluded.
