Telangana: All 13 Covid Positive Travelers Test Negative For Omicron, Says State Health Department
Telangana state health department announced on Monday that no cases of the Omicron variant has been registered in Telangana so far.
Hyderabad: Amid growing concerns over Covid-19's latest variant Omicron, which is said to be more virulent than the Delta variant of the deadly virus, the Telangana health department on Tuesday said that there are no traces of Omicron found in Telangana so far. However, a few days ago, several passengers from the "high-risk" countries have travelled to India. Thirteen samples of those international travellers who tested positive for Covid were sent to genomic sequencing.
"There is no Omicron variant in Telangana. All 13 covid positive samples of international travellers sent for genomic sequencing turned out to be negative," said the State Health Department.

Several Cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 have been detected in the country, with Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Delhi reporting new cases. On Monday, two more Omicron cases were detected in Mumbai, taking India's tally to 23.
The Omicron variant was first noticed in Botswana on November 11 and three days later in South Africa, which after following the due scientific procedure, informed the World Health Organisation on November 24.
