The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday issued a notice to the BJP candidate in Telangana's Munugode Assembly by-poll Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy following alleged money transactions from his family-owned company purported to be done to induce voters. The ECI demanded the answer by 4 pm on October 31.

The election commission, in its notice, said that TRS party General secretary Soma Bharath Kumar in his complaint alleged that an amount of rupees Rs 5.24 crore had been transferred into the bank accounts of 23 persons in the Munugode constituency in the past few days. He alleged that the money was meant to be deployed for voter inducement.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) said in its complaint on Saturday that Ms Sashee Infra and Mining Limited Company had transferred the amount through its SBI account to 23 persons or companies located in the Munugode constituency on October 14, 18 and 29 for voter inducement by withdrawing cash from these transferee accounts.

According to the formal correspondence from the ECI to the BJP candidate, if transfers are made by you or at your direction by a family-owned business as is alleged, it is your responsibility to make sure that the money is not used for voter inducement. This is a corrupt practice.

According to the ECI letter, "In the contest as above, you are directed to clarify the position and status covering all aspects as mentioned in the representation about the alleged transaction allegedly done to induce votes in 93-Munugode AC. on or before October 31, 2022, 4:00 pm to enable Commission to take an appropriate decision."
