Amid Covid Surge, Telangana High Court Asks To Increase Number Of Hospitals For Children

The High Court directed the state government to ensure that Covid regulations are followed in weekly markets. The next hearing has been scheduled for the 17th of this month. 

Hyderabad: While hearing the status of Coronavirus and the new variant Omicron in the state, the Telangana High Court on Friday recommended to increase the number of hospitals designated for children. 

The court said that since the new variant is seen to be highly contagious among children, the number of hospitals for kids must be increased, in addition to the existing Nilofar Hospital. 

The High Court also ordered to strictly abide by the Central Government's guidelines, adding that the rules and regulations for cinema halls, shopping malls and other commercial establishments must be complied with.

On Thursday, Telangana reported 1,913 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total count to 6,87,456 and the active caseload to 7,847. Two more Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Andhra Pradesh recorded 547 new cases taking the total tally to 20,78,923. In terms of fatalities, one death was confirmed in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, bringing the total to 14,500. However, in the last 24 hours, 128 new patients have been cured, bringing the overall recoveries to 20,62,157. The active caseload has reached 2266.

India has been witnessing a Covid surge and the numbers have seen an unprecedented rise for a third consecutive day.

The country logged 1,17,100 fresh cases and 302 people lost their lives in the last 24 hours, while 30,836 recoveries were made in the time period.

The daily positivity rate stands at 7.74%. The active cases in the country are 3,71,363, the total recoveries so far have been 3,43,71,845 and the death toll is 4,83,178.
