Independence Day 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi Urges Indian Leadership In Global Gaming Industry. 'We Can Bring Talent Into The Gaming World'

Independence Day 2024: “I see that a huge market has emerged in the world of gaming, but even today, the impact especially on those who create and produce games, is largely foreign.” said PM Modi.

Independence Day 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for India to establish itself as a global leader in the gaming industry. In his address to the nation, the Prime Minister emphasised the need for Indian talent to dominate not just in gaming but in game production as well, leveraging the country's rich cultural heritage.

PM Modi highlighted the vast opportunities emerging in the gaming sector, noting that despite its growth, much of the industry's influence remains foreign. He urged the nation to harness its ancient traditions and literature to create "Made in India" gaming products that could capture global attention.

“I see that a huge market has emerged in the world of gaming, but even today, the impact in the gaming industry, especially on those who create and produce games, is largely foreign.” said PM Modi. “India has a rich heritage, and we can bring talent into the gaming world. We should attract everyone to our gaming sector, and I want Indian children and youth to lead the gaming industry.”

Tryst With Gaming Community

This call to action aligns with PM Modi's ongoing engagement with the gaming community. Earlier this year, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, he met with a select group of Indian gamers, including prominent figures like Animesh Agarwal, Mithilesh Patankar, and Payal Dhare. The gamers shared their experiences on social media, expressing appreciation for the Prime Minister's forward-thinking approach to the industry.

During the meeting, the discussion centred on the rising influence of games inspired by Indian mythology and the challenges faced by the gaming community, particularly the confusion between gaming and gambling. PM Modi directly addressed this issue, inquiring about the difficulties gamers face in distinguishing skill-based gaming from gambling.

The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to explore various gaming platforms, including virtual reality, mobile, and console gaming. This interaction further highlights the growing recognition of the gaming sector's potential and the government's interest in supporting its development.
