WhatsApp Might Have A Surprise For You On New Year, These Smartphones Will Stop Supporting Meta-Owned App From January

More than 20 Android devices will lose access to WhatsApp starting January 1, marking the beginning of the new year.

The new year is coming, and it brings a lot of surprises for us, some that we love and some that we will hate. One surprise will be brought to us by Meta owned WhatsApp, however, it might not be a good one. WhatsApp, Meta’s widely-used messaging and calling app, remains an essential tool for millions of Android users globally. As WhatsApp continues to expand its features and capabilities, the app periodically updates its system requirements, which means some older smartphones will no longer be compatible.

According to a report by HDblog on December 20, more than 20 Android devices will lose access to WhatsApp starting January 1, marking the beginning of the new year. This change primarily affects devices still operating on Android KitKat or earlier versions of the Android operating system. Alongside WhatsApp, other Meta-owned apps like Facebook and Instagram may also soon cease to function on these outdated smartphones. Notably, several devices on this list are from brands such as HTC and LG, companies that have already exited the smartphone market.

It’s important to point out that all the affected devices are nearly a decade old. For users with phones that are five or six years old, WhatsApp should continue to function without any issues. However, if you own one of the soon-to-be unsupported models, it’s highly advisable to back up your WhatsApp chats to your Google account. Doing so will allow you to restore your conversations seamlessly when you switch to a newer device.

Let us now go over the devices that will soon cease to support WhatsApp.
