Vivo Y300 Challengers: OnePlus Nord CE 4, Poco X6 Pro, More

Vivo Y300 Challengers: Samsung Galaxy A35, Nothing Phone 2a, more alternatives to choose from.

Vivo Y300 Challengers: Many of the phones that Vivo launches have one tech thread running through them: they come with great design and impressive cameras. Other USPs might differ from phone to phone but Vivo usually gets design and cameras right. The Vivo Y300 is no different.

The biggest USP of the device is its 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 main camera (albeit with no OIS) which is bundled with a special portrait mode and some impressive AI tools, although it is accompanied by a rather basic 2-megapixel sensor.

Selfies are handled by a 32-megapixel sensor. Design is another area where the Vivo Y300 shines. The phone cuts a slim figure at just 7.79 mm and looks quite premium. It boasts a 6.67-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate. Some might be disappointed by the presence of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor on the phone but the phone does well in other spec-terms.

It features a 5,000 mAh battery with 80W fast charging support, comes with dual stereo speakers and has an IP64 rating as well. The phone runs on Android 14 out of the box with Vivo’s FunTouchOS on top.

At a starting price of Rs 21,999, the Vivo Y300 paints a nice smartphone picture but some of its spec misses leave the door open for the competition.  its share of spec-misses too.

Here are five phones that can hit the chances of the Vivo Y300's success and not miss:

OnePlus Nord CE 4: The Never-Settling All-Rounder

Price: Rs 22,999

A specifications-wise superior phone in the same price zone as the Vivo Y300  is the OnePlus Nord CE4. The phone comes with a slightly bigger 6.7-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate.

It runs on a much faster Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 processor and in camera terms, it brings along a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS (that is missing in the Vivo Y300) which is backed by an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor.

On the front, you get fewer megapixels than the Vivo Y300 with a 16-megapixel camera, but the phone has a bigger 5,500 mAh battery with even faster 100W charging support. You get stereo speakers, OxygenOS layered on Android 14 and an IP54 rating.

It might not look as stylish as the Vivo Y300, but the OnePlus Nord CE 4 is a phone that the Vivo Y300 needs to be very wary of.

Samsung Galaxy A35: The Display Wonder That Ages Well

Price: Rs 22,990

The Samsung Galaxy A35 was launched at a much higher price but thanks to price cuts is now in the same price segment as the Vivo Y300. The phone’s biggest USP is four years of assured Android updates which means the phone is likely to age much better than the rest of its competition.

The Galaxy A35 comes with Android 14 out of the box with Samsung’s OneUI on top. It features a beautiful 6.6-inch full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection. The phone runs on the Exynos 1380 processor, which is strictly mid-segment but is still more powerful than the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 on the Vivo Y300. The Galaxy A35 features a triple camera combination on the back with a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 5-megapixel macro one.

The phone also comes with Samsung’s famous Nightography mode. The 13-megapixel selfie sensor is a bit of a letdown, though. It is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery but comes with 25 W charging support which is quite slow and no charger in the box.

Poco X6 Pro: A professional competition slayer

Price: Rs 21,999 onwards

The phone that brings flagship-level processing power to the mid segment, the Poco X6 Pro runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8300 Ultra chip whose performance is close to what we see in flagship phones.

This paired with plenty of RAM and storage, makes the phone leaps and bounds more powerful than the Vivo Y300. It features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate paired with Gorilla Glass 5 protection and Dolby Vision and has a triple camera set up on the back that consists of a 64-megapixel main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel ultrawide and a 2-megapixel macro one. A 16-megapixel camera handles selfies.

The phone comes with a 5,000 mAh battery which supports slightly slower charging at 67W as compared to the Vivo Y300. Its design is basic rather than brilliant, but the phone has dual speakers, IP54 rating, and runs on Android 14 with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS on top - enough to make it an absolute pro headache for the Vivo Y300.

Nothing Phone 2a: A Design Distinction

Price: Rs 23,999

The Vivo Y300 may be fighting on its slim looks, but if there is one phone that stands out from all other phones in terms of design (quite literally), it is the Nothing Phone 2a. Its transparent back laden with LEDs makes the device an eye-catching affair even from afar. Apart from its unique looks, the phone comes with decent specs too.

It is powered by the  MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro chip which is again more highly rated than the one on the Vivo Y300. It has a 6.7-inch full HD+ AMOLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate with Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It also has by far the most impressive camera combination on a phone in this segment, featuring two 50-megapixel sensors, one main camera with OIS and the second an ultrawide one.

There is a 32-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. The phone runs on NothingOS based on Android 14 out of the box which is squeaky clean and very close to stock Android, unlike FunTouchOS on Vivo Y300. The Phone 2a is backed by a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging support but sadly you will not find a charger in the box.

What you do get though, are stereo speakers and an IP54 rating on the phone. Outstanding, right?

Lava Agni 3: Edgy And Innovative

Price: Rs 22,999 onwards

One of the few homegrown brand devices that get into lists on merit, the Lava Agni 3 is a device for people looking for edge and innovation but do not have the big bucks for it.

The phone comes with a unique (in this segment) dual display setup. There is a 6.78-inch AMOLED main display with a 120 Hz refresh rate along with a smaller 1.74-inch AMOLED display next to the camera on the back that acts as a viewfinder for selfies and highlights notifications and carries out a few other tasks.

This striking combo is backed by the Dimensity 7300X processor which is a very capable chipset. You get a triple camera setup with a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, an 8-megapixel telephoto with 3X optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide sensor, making this the most versatile rear camera setup in this segment.

Selfies are handled by a 16-megapixel sensor on the front. The phone brings along a 5,000 mAh battery with 66W charging support, stereo speakers, clean Android 14 with three years of assured updates and an IP64 rating. Need we say more?
