Samsung's One UI 5.1 Update Rolling Out Globally. Here Are The Supported New And Old Galaxy Models

Samsung on Wednesday announced it will start rolling out its newest OS, the One UI 5.1 globally, which was unveiled alongside its iPhone rivalling flagship Galaxy S23 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023.

Samsung on Wednesday announced it will start rolling out its newest OS, the One UI 5.1 globally, which was unveiled alongside its iPhone rivalling flagship Galaxy S23 series at the Galaxy Unpacked 2023. Samsung's One UI 5.1 will be first rolled out for last year's Galaxy S22 series, the Galaxy Z Fold 4, the Z Flip 4 and the Galaxy S21 series as well as 2020's Galaxy S20 lineup.

Samsung has introduced new features with the One UI 5.1 that can understand how supported devices are used and make recommendations accordingly.

Samsung One UI 5.1 features and changes

According to Samsung, the new update, One UI 5.1 brings visual improvements with better personalisation options. One UI 5.1 will also give Galaxy users the flexibility to create professional quality photos with Expert RAW features that is now a part of the Galaxy Camera app. To use it, select “more” while taking a photo to capture high-quality shots in their raw format.

The latest update also brings an enhanced AI-based Photo Remaster that automatically improves deteriorated details of images by improving brightness, fine-tuning details and making colour corrections even in backlit scenes. It also removes unwanted shadows and reflections for a better photo.

“One UI 5.1 is the up-to-date example of Samsung’s commitment to providing Galaxy users with the latest innovations as soon as possible,” Janghyun Yoon, EVP and Senior Executive, Software Office, said in a statement.

“Over the past several weeks, we have worked closely with our service providers and carrier partners to bring One UI 5.1 to current Galaxy smartphones and tablets around the world within a few short weeks of the Galaxy S23 series announcement.”

With the One UI 5.1, also comes new features that will allow users to fine-tune nearly every aspect of the mobile experience -- from appearance to communications, actions and more. One UI 5.1 also improves the Smart suggestions widget by adding the ability to recommend Spotify tracks and playlists based on users’ activities, such as music for road trips or relaxing. One UI 5.1 also brings better connectivity throughout Galaxy Ecosystem.

Recently, OnePlus announced it is increasing the shelf life of its smartphones with extended software upgrades. The OnePlus 11 is the company's first flagship that will support four years of Android versions and five years of security updates, Pete Lau, Founder of OnePlus and Senior Vice President and Chief of Product at Oppo and OnePlus announced ahead of the launch of OnePlus 11 series. 

OnePlus was slow in rolling out software updates, but now, it is promising to extend the shelf life of its devices, in a bid to attract more users. Earlier in February 2022, South Korean tech giant Samsung had announced adding four generations of Android upgrades and OneUI upgrades five years of security updates on select handsets in the flagship Galaxy S series, Z series and A series smartphones as well as tablets.
