Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Tipped To Get 50MP Ultrawide Camera: Here's How It Could Outshine iPhone 16 Pro Max

Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra's camera setup could mark a step up from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s ultrawide lens, which offered a 48MP sensor.

Samsung Galaxy S25 Leaks: Samsung's next big launch, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, is expected to take place in January 2025, and the rumour mill is in full swing. The latest leak hints at significant improvements to the ultrawide camera lens, raising anticipation for the flagship device's photography capabilities.

What Will Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Get?

According to information spotted on the Camera FV-5 platform, the Galaxy S25 Ultra will feature an upgraded ultrawide lens with a 50MP sensor. Utilising 4-in-1 pixel binning, the lens is designed to produce sharp 12.5MP images. Additional details include a 23.2mm focal length, a bright f/1.7 aperture, and Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS), supporting resolutions up to 4080 x 3060 pixels.

ISO levels range from 12 to 3200, with compatibility for both JPEG and DNG formats.

This marks a step up from the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s ultrawide lens, which offered a 48MP sensor, a 13mm focal length, and a narrower f/2.2 aperture. The enhanced aperture on the S25 Ultra is expected to capture brighter, more detailed images, especially in low-light conditions.

Competing With iPhone's Best

Samsung's new flagship is not just an improvement over its predecessors — it’s also aiming to outshine rivals like the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

While the Pro Max features a 48MP ultrawide lens with a 13mm focal length and a f/2.2 aperture, the S25 Ultra’s specs suggest a competitive edge in capturing brighter and sharper photos. However, comparisons will likely intensify once both devices are extensively tested.

More Features In Pipeline

Though the leak focused on the ultrawide lens, speculation continues around the S25 Ultra’s other camera features. Reports suggest a telephoto lens with "variable capabilities," potentially offering smoother zoom options through adjustable focal lengths. Additionally, Samsung is expected to retain the quad-camera array, dismissing rumours of a reduced lens count.

Beyond the camera, other rumoured upgrades include a refined design with rounder edges, a larger 6.9-inch display, the powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, and up to 16GB of RAM. AI-powered features are also likely to play a significant role in the phone’s user experience.

With the Galaxy S25 Ultra poised to go head-to-head with heavyweights like the iPhone 16 Pro Max and Google Pixel 9 Pro, Samsung's latest offering has much to prove. As leaks continue to trickle in, fans and industry insiders eagerly await the official unveiling of what could be one of 2024’s most exciting smartphones.
