Realme India Aims To Increase Local Assembly With Homegrown Partners: Report

According to Sky Li, global CEO and founder of Realme, the company intends to localise the production of wearables such as smartwatches and hearables in the country along with homegrown companies.

Handset maker Realme is aiming to increase local manufacturing in India, in collaboration with contract manufacturers. According to Sky Li, global CEO and founder of the smartphone OEM, Realme intends to localise the production of wearables such as smartwatches and hearables in the country along with homegrown companies, after hitting the target of manufacturing televisions and smartphones in the country, says a report by ET Telecom

The report quoted data from market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC) and added that Chinese handset makers are mulling to up local manufacturing in India in the wake of the geopolitical tensions between China and India.

Sixty-70 per cent of Realme's smartphone parts such as displays and batteries are currently sourced in India. The smartphone OEM has manufacturing partners like Bhagwati Electronics Skyworth and Videotex, for assembling televisions and for hearables and wearables, the company has partnered with KHY Electronics.

This comes days after a report said that Realme and OnePlus are planning to exit the television market in India. Both the companies are owned by Chinese tech behemoth BBK Electronics Corporation which also owns Oppo, Vivo and Iqoo. OnePlus is a subsidiary of Oppo while Vivo's subsidiary is Iqoo. Both Realme and OnePlus are planning to discontinue selling their television panels in the Indian market, a report by Business Standard said, citing sources familiar with the matter.

To recall, the handset maker started operations in India in 2018, under the leadership of Madhav Sheth who was also the face of the brand in the country. The handset maker entered the market with the intention of providing quality products with customer-centricity while empowering localisation.
