Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 Chipset Unveiling Expected
As mentioned, a major highlight of the event will be the debut of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset. Qualcomm's Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), Don McGuire, has previously confirmed both the name of this upcoming mobile processor and its announcement at the summit. However, the microsite lacks more information about the event, including product launches, potential sessions, or participating smartphone brands. With several months remaining until October, it is expected that Qualcomm will update the site with more details in the near future.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset, manufactured by TSMC using a 3nm process, is said to incorporate custom Oryon CPU cores. The two high-performance cores are said to reach peak clock speeds of 4GHz and have reportedly achieved over 3,000 points in single-core and 10,000 points in multi-core Geekbench tests.
Departing from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s 1 + 3 + 4 configuration, the upcoming chipset is expected to adopt a 2 + 6 layout without efficiency cores.
To recall, the Snadragon 8 Gen 3 flagship processor, launched last year brought artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities that were adopted by handset makers Samsung and Xiaomi in their Galaxy S24 series and Xiaomi 14 Ultra, respectively. The AI advancements in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC largely focus on generative AI, using algorithms to create various forms of content, including images and text.
The chipset's AI Engine is specifically engineered for on-device generative AI, leading Qualcomm top executives to refer to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as the "titan of on-device intelligence."
