Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 Chip For Mid-Range Phones Launched. These Are The First OEMs To Adopt The SoC

Qualcomm has introduced the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, positioning it as the chipmaker's most sophisticated mid-range chipset to date. This latest addition to the Snapdragon 7-series lineup boasts support for on-device generative AI models such as Llama 2, Gemini Nano, and Baichuan-7B, delivering up to 15 per cent and 45 per cent enhanced CPU and GPU performance, respectively, compared to its predecessors. Additionally, the chip enables capturing of 200-megapixel images and supports Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, as well as mmWave and Sub6 5G networks.

Smartphones featuring the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 (SM7675-AB) chipset will soon be launched by smartphone manufacturers such as OnePlus, Realme, and Sharp. Qualcomm further announced on Thursday that the first smartphone incorporating the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 is anticipated to debut within the next two months. However, specific market availability details for these smartphones have not yet been disclosed by the company.

Qualcomm provided details on the new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3, which includes one Arm Cortex-X4 'prime' core running at 2.8GHz, four 'performance' cores clocked at 2.6GHz, and three 'efficiency' cores reaching a maximum speed of 1.9GHz. This chipset supports up to 24GB of LPDDR5x memory at speeds of up to 4200MHz, as well as UFS 4.0 storage and USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C connectivity.

The latest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 supports Quad-HD+ resolution displays with a refresh rate of 120Hz and external displays with resolutions up to 8K. It includes compatibility with the Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec, spatial audio, and head tracking. Additionally, OEMs have the option to incorporate face unlocking, as the chip supports an ultra-low power, always-sensing camera.

The latest Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 from Qualcomm is the inaugural chip in the series to feature triple 18-bit image signal processors (ISPs), facilitating smartphone cameras to capture images of up to 200 megapixels. It enables HDR video capture at 4K/60fps and offers support for Snapdragon Low Light Vision (LLV) technology, enhancing video quality in low-light environments.

In terms of connectivity, Qualcomm's latest chip features the Snapdragon X63 5G Modem-RF system, boasting a peak download speed of up to 4.2Gbps. This modem supports both mmWave and Sub-6 5G networks, with Dual-Sim Dual Active (DSDA) functionality for both 5G and 4G networks.

Moreover, it's the first Snapdragon 7-series chip to provide compatibility with Wi-Fi 7 networks, featuring high-band simultaneous (HBS) multilink technology. Additionally, Qualcomm's FastConnect 7800 mobile connectivity system claims to deliver download speeds of up to 5.8Gbps. The chip also supports the latest Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, LE audio, Snapdragon Sound, and Qualcomm's aptX audio codecs, as per Qualcomm's statements.
