Oppo Watch 3 Series May Launch On August 10 With Qualcomm's Latest Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 Chip
Handset maker Oppo is gearing up to launch the Oppo Watch 3 Series in its home turf China on August 10 and one model may come with Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 SoC.
It's been weeks since Qualcomm unveiled Snapdragon W5+, W5 smartwatch chips that are said to be twice as effective with consuming half as much power as the Wear 4100 OS, and now handset maker Oppo is gearing up to launch the Oppo Watch 3 in its home turf China on August 10, which coincides with the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 series, suggests a new leak.
Earlier in July, Oppo had mentioned that the Oppo Watch 3 Series would be unveiled in August without revealing the exact launch date. A new leak by noted tipster Digital Chat Station suggests that the smartwatch would be unveiled in China on August 10. According to reports, at least one of the three watches in the Oppo Watch 3 Series would feature the latest top-tier Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 chip.
The Oppo Watch 2, Fossil Gen 6 and Skagen Falster 3 are some of the smartwatches that were launched with the Wear 4100 and 4100+ SoCs.
Earlier last month, chip-making giant Qualcomm introduced two efficient chips built for smartwatches that promise big battery gains. The new wearable chips are the Snapdragon W5+ and W5 which are made for premium smartwatches and the latter for smartwatches for children and activity trackers, respectively.
OEMs Oppo and Mobvoi had announced they would be among the first brands to announce smartwatches based on the new platforms.
Qualcomm for the first time has ditched the Snapdragon Wear branding in our of new names for the chipsets. Both the Snapdragon W5+ and W5 are built on 4nm process which is a giant leap from the previous 12nm processor, which promises big battery gains and higher processing power. According to the San Diego, California-headquartered company, the Snapdragon W5+ promises a 50 per cent longer battery life than the previous-gen Snapdragon Wear 4100+.
