Oppo Find N, the Company's First Foldable Is Here, But It Won't Launch In India

Oppo has unveiled its first foldable device, the Oppo Find N during the second day of Oppo Inno Day event.

New Delhi: Foldable smartphones have grown by leaps from being called half-baked prototypes to being called innovative head turners and now, Oppo has become the latest smartphone maker to join the leagues of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Huawei X and the Galaxy Z Flip, among others. The company has unveiled its first foldable device, the Oppo Find N during the second day of Oppo Inno Day event. Equipped with what Oppo calls a "Flexion Hinge", the device folds perfectly, thus, leaving virtually no gap between the sides of the folded screen.

The handset will debut in its home turf China starting December 23, 2021, at a starting price of RMB 7,699/$1,210 or roughly Rs 92,100 for the base 8GB RAM + 256GB storage variant. CNY 8,999 or roughly Rs 1,07,600 will be the cost of the higher 12GB RAM + 512GB variant. The device, however, will not make its way into India.

“New form factors are ushering in an exciting new time in smartphone technology. Oppo has invested a significant amount of time and effort into coming up with a better approach to a foldable smartphone, experimenting with a range of form factors, hinge designs, display materials and aspect ratios, to create a new device that meets the needs of more users.

"With the Oppo Find N, we aim to change people’s perceptions about what a smartphone can offer and begin making foldable devices more accessible to an even larger audience," Pete Lau, Chief Product Officer of Oppo, said in a statement at the Inno Day event.

For the first time in a foldable smartphone, the Oppo Find N uses a landscape ratio for the inner display, thus, striking a better balance for users to switch between an immersive 7.1-inch inner display and a 5.49-inch outer display that offers a full smartphone experience. With an 8.4:9 aspect ratio, the inner display unfolds directly into landscape mode so users can watch videos, play games or read books without rotating the device. When folded, the 18:9 aspect ratio gives users a full, familiar smartphone experience with a display that is easy to use with one hand.
