Oppo Air Glass Is Better Than Google Glass. Here's Why

Oppo on Tuesday unveiled Air Glass, its assisted reality (AR) device at the Oppo Inno day 2021 and the device is slated to go on sale early next year.

New Delhi: Handset maker Oppo on Tuesday unveiled Air Glass, its assisted reality (AR) device at the Oppo Inno day 2021 and the device is slated to go on sale early next year. It is kind of like Google Glass, or better than it as it projects 2D information into the user's field of view rather than overlaying 3D objects onto the real world. According to Oppo, this is an assisted reality product, and not an augmented reality device. In other words, Oppo Air Glass is better than Google Glass as it avoids a camera that had made the latter controversial.

“Oppo has been exploring the possibilities of Extended Reality (XR) for a long time, and with Air Glass, we have finally created a smart glass product that is truly within the reach of consumers,” Levin Liu, Oppo Vice President and Head of Oppo Research Institute, said in a statement.

“As its futuristic design suggests, Oppo Air Glass is set to revolutionize the way we view and consume information. The easy-to-use display can present key messages we need right in front of our eyes. With Oppo Air Glass, the world will never look the same again," Liu added.

The Air Glass can be controlled via Oppo phones or smartwatches and an integrated touch panel on the side. It is also capable of reacting to your movements, allowing you to dismiss notifications with a light shake of the head. A microphone is on board for more complicated tasks.

The Oppo Air Glass is equipped with the company's self-developed Spark Micro Projector, a Micro LED, and a diffraction optical waveguide display that supports four different user interactions through touch, voice, head movement, and hand motion, thus, allowing users to have faster and easier access to the information they need.

The Oppo Air Glass is built around a monocle waveguide design and has free-flowing curves, which gives it a minimalist appearance. With a total weight of approximately 30 gram, Oppo Air Glass is one of the lightest monocle waveguide devices in the industry and can be worn much like a pair of regular glasses, the company said.

The frame of Oppo Air Glass is manufactured with CNC technique, imparting the design with a touch of exquisiteness and precision. The device's design makes it a stylish tech accessory for daily wear.
