Oppo Find X8 Challengers: iPhone 16, Samsung Galaxy S24, More

Oppo Find X8 Alternatives: OnePlus 12, Xiaomi 14, and more smartphones to choose from.

Oppo Find X8 Challengers: Oppo has released the latest devices in its flagship Find X series, the Oppo Find X8 and the Oppo Find X8 Pro. While the Pro variant is the more expensive, more premium-ly specced one, the Oppo Find X8 is the one with a relatively competitive price (Rs 69,999 for 12GB + 256GB and Rs 79,999 for 16GB + 512GB), even while coming with a spec sheet that is up there with most flagships. The phone features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate with 4500 nits peak brightness and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection.

It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 flagship processor. Its major USPs are the three 50-megapixel cameras on the back – main, ultrawide and periscope telephoto (offering 3x zoom).

You get a 32-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. The Oppo Find X8 runs on a 5,630 mAh battery with support for 80W wired and 50W wireless charging and comes with Android 15 out of the box with ColorOS on top, complete with Oppo AI and five years of promised Android updates.

You also get IP68 and IP69 ratings (it will easily survive a drop in the water), stereo speakers, a sleek design with Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection at the back and an aluminium frame.

That's quite a lineup, but despite this, the Oppo Find X8 faces a fair bit of competition. These five phones can easily give the Oppo Find X8 a run for its money:

Google Pixel 9: Compact Phone With Big Software Muscle

Price: Rs 79,999

The non-Pro flagship of Google is a major headache for all those in its price range, and the Oppo Find X8 finds itself right in its sights. The comparatively compact Pixel comes with decent hardware and some big software muscle.

The phone has a 6.3-inch full HD+ OLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate topped with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. Running the Pixel 9 show is the Tensor G4 processor, the same as on its pro brother. There is a dual camera setup on the redesigned camera bar on the back that features a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS accompanied by a 48-megapixel ultrawide sensor, and a 10.5-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls.

All of this is bundled with Google’s computational photography wizardry and tons of AI features, including Google Gemini in all its glory. The phone is powered by Android 15 out of the box and since it is a Pixel seven years of updates are promised by Google.

The phone also brings an IP68 rating, stereo speakers, a distinct Pixel design and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the back as well.  Mind you, you get a relatively smaller 4,700 mAh battery which comes with somewhat sluggish 27W wired and 15W (Pixel stand) and 12W (Qi compatible chargers) wireless charging support.

iPhone 16: The Truly New iPhone

Price: Rs 77,900

New iPhones are in town. And they come with the same old price tags, which make them even more lethal for competition. Standing in the way of the Oppo Find X8 is the iPhone 16. The phone comes with a (slightly) new design that helps it stand out from older iPhones, which is a big deal, given how similar iPhones have appeared in recent times.

It features a superb 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, although some might be disappointed with its rather ordinary 60 hz refresh rate. The phone runs on Apple’s new A18 chipset which is another major pro for its case. You also get a dual camera setup featuring a 48-megapixel main and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor, while there is another 12-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies and video calls that can also record videos in 4K.

You get a day's worth of battery, Apple Intelligence which is Apple’s take on AI, iOS 18 out of the box, stereo speakers, IP68 rating and two new buttons – an Action button and a Camera Control button. All of this with the legendary Apple reputation for timely updates and reliability!

Samsung Galaxy S24: Steady, Solid, Small Samsung

Price: Around Rs 70,000

The Galaxy S24 is the most compact flagship on the list at just 147 mm tall. There is nothing compact about its spec sheet, though. It brings a superb 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x FHD+ display with 120 Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on top.

The phone comes with an Armour Aluminium frame and an IP68 rating. Running the show within a solid build is the Exynos 2400 chip, which Snapdragon fans might not like, but which is nevertheless a flagship performer. The phone comes with a very versatile camera set up with a 50-megapixel main camera with OIS, a 10-megapixel telephoto with 3x zoom and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor on the back while there is a 12-megapixel selfie sensor on the front.

The phone runs on Android 14 out of the box with Samsung’s OneUI on top but has since been updated to Android 15. It also comes with Galaxy AI, Samsung's suite of AI tools, many of which have been made in collaboration with Google, and an assurance of seven years of Android updates.

The battery on the phone is small at 4,000mAh and the charging speeds are nothing to rave about either - 25W wired and 15W wireless charging - but this is still one mighty phone for the Find X8 to deal with.

OnePlus 12: Still A Power-Packed Spec Sheet

Price: Rs 61,999 onwards

The OnePlus 13 may be right around the corner but the OnePlus 12 has got competition sweating still. The phone comes loaded with flagship-level specs.

It features a big 6.82-inch quad HD+ LTPO AMOLED  display with 120 Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection with 4500 nits peak brightness and runs on the flagship-grade Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, accompanied by speedy RAM and storage. You also get cameras created in partnership with the legendary name Hasselblad The main camera setup features a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS, a 64-megapixel periscope telephoto sensor with 3x optical zoom and a 48-megapixel ultra-wide sensor on the back, and a 32-megapixel sensor for selfies and video calls.

It is juiced by a 5,400 mAh battery which supports 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Even though the phone comes with Android 14 out of the box, it has since been updated to Android 15 with a new OxygenOS 15.

Add an IP68 rating and stereo speakers to the spec menu, and this remains a formidable flagship on a budget, reminding the Oppo Find X8 to Never Settle.

Xiaomi 14: Compact, Capable, Classy Camera Flagship

Price: Rs 59,999

Another phone that remains relevant even though its successor has emerged on the horizon of other nations is the Xiaomi 14. It is a compact phone with a beautiful  6.36 inch LTPO AMOLED display with 120 Hz refresh rate topped with Gorilla Glass Victus protection and comes with cameras made in collaboration with iconic camera brand Leica.

You get three 50-megapixel sensors on the back– a main sensor with OIS, a special portrait telephoto lens with 3.2x optical zoom and an ultrawide one. There is a 32-megapixel sensor on the front for selfies. The phone runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor paired with an ample amount of speedy RAM and storage.

A 4,610 mAh battery keeps the phone going, and while that might seem a little on the small side, it comes with super quick  90W wired and 50W over wireless charging.

The device runs on Android 14 with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS on top. A compact camera champ this.
