OnePlus 6 And OnePlus 6T To Stop Getting Software Updates After 3 Years

OnePlus has ended support for the popular OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T after almost three years of providing software updates.

New Delhi: Handset maker OnePlus has ended support for the popular OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T after almost three years of rolling out software updates. Both the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T were unveiled back in 2018 and according to the handset maker's announcement, both devices will not get updated to OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12. OnePlus made the announcement on its community forum.

"After 3 major updates and more than 3 years of updates, around 60 Closed Beta builds and over 30 Open Beta builds it's now time to close a chapter and announce the end of OnePlus 6 and 6T official software support," Abdul B., from OxygenOS Operations recently wrote on the OnePlus community forum.

"It was thanks to your constant support that we were able to constantly improve the software experience on these devices and we can't thank you enough for your constant feedback. We would like to share a special word of appreciation to all the beta testers, that, since 2018, have been testing features before they would get released to the stable version. You played a huge role in optimizing OxygenOS to ensure an overall better experience," he added.

Earlier in 2021, the handset maker had mentioned that it was updating its Software Maintenance Schedule to offer three major Android updates as well as four years of security updates for premium OnePlus handsets. This Software Maintenance Schedule will be applicable to the newer OnePlus 8 and later smartphones only.

Launched in 2018, the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T are equipped with the then flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset. Both the devices sport 16MP primary camera with an f/1.7 aperture and a 20MP camera with an f/1.7 aperture.
