With the OnePlus 12 launch tipped to launch soon, the latest leak from famed leakster Digital Chat Station via a Weibo post suggests that the smartphone will offer a distinctive bamboo-like special back panel. This is similar to what OnePlus did with the OnePlus 1 model. A partial image of the back panel has been shared, revealing a OnePlus logo surrounded by a prominent wood grain structure. Notably, unlike the OnePlus 1's back panel, the one on the OnePlus 12 will not support hot-swapping.
Considering OnePlus's tradition, the special "Bamboo variant" of the OnePlus 12 might be released at a later date, different from the initial release. This strategy allows the brand to sustain excitement and anticipation for the phone for several months post-launch. Apple and Samsung also release a new colour variant of some smartphone models, months after initial launch.
According to a few leaks, the upcoming OnePlus 12 will come in green and black colours, akin to the OnePlus 11. These variants are expected to be crafted from glass, similar to OnePlus 11 and 11R. In a departure from previous models, the company is rumored to reintroduce features such as wireless and reverse wireless charging.
Meanwhile, as per Max Jambor, OnePlus is gearing up to mark its tenth anniversary with a significant event scheduled for December 4 in China, where the unveiling of the highly anticipated OnePlus 12 smartphone will take place for the local audience. The global launch is slated for January 2024.
Leaks hint at the introduction of the "OnePlus 12 series," indicating the possibility of multiple phones within the lineup. Whether there will be a more advanced OnePlus 12 Pro or a scaled-down 12R remains uncertain. Additionally, speculation suggests the potential existence of a Lite version as well.
OnePlus 12 Specifications (Expected)
One of the standout features of the upcoming OnePlus 12 is expected to be its 64-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. Given OnePlus's previous collaborations with Hasselblad, it's safe to speculate the latest phones from the company will continue to sport cameras designed by the leading Swedish manufacturer.
The OnePlus 12 is anticipated to sport a 6.82-inch X1 "Oriental" LTPO OLED panel, a collaborative effort between OnePlus and China's display giant BOE. This display is set to deliver a high resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels and an impressive peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits, surpassing the Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max's peak brightness of 2,000 nits. Additionally, the smartphone will debut its first-ever imaging engine chip, the Display P1.
