Here's Why Nothing Phone 1 Can't Reach Peak Brightness of 1200 Nits As Advertised

The Nothing Phone 1 has been in a number of controversies since its launch with the recent one being regarding the smartphone's advertised peak brightness which fell short in a real-world test.

The Nothing Phone 1 has been in a number of controversies since its launch with the recent one being regarding the smartphone's advertised peak brightness which fell short in a real-world test. The newly-launched Nothing Phone 1 had previously advertised that it is capable of achieving a peak brightness of 1200 nits, but according to a real-world test by a German tech publication named ComputerBase, the Nothing Phone 1 could not go beyond a peak brightness of 700 nits.

According to a report by Android Central, Carl Pei's consumer tech brand Nothing has clarified that the Nothing Phone 1 can not reach a peak brightness beyond 700 nits due to software limitations, but the hardware can reach a peak brightness of 1,200 nits. "The hardware is capable of reaching up to 1,200 nits peak brightness, but this is currently capped by the software to 700 nits," a company spokesperson was quoted as saying by Android Central.

The Nothing spokesperson was also quoted as saying that the company made the decision to cap the peak brightness of Nothing Phone 1 to 700 nits to do justice to battery consumption and heating concerns. Nothing, however, did not mention if it has plans to remove the cap on peak brightness on the Nothing Phone 1 through a future update.

Several models of the Nothing Phone 1 was haunted by a weird green tint issue in the display, days after it was launched. That's not all, some users have also reported having faced dead pixels on the Nothing Phone 1's screen. Early buyers of Nothing Phone 1 took to Twitter to complain about the green tint issue with the phone's display while several other buyers of Nothing Phone 1 have reported defects around the device's selfie camera punch hole which we have seen happening with some Google Pixel 6 devices.

It should be noted that Carl Pei's consumer tech brand Nothing's Phone 1 was launched on July 12 at an event in London. The maiden smartphone from the company was also hyped by the founder himself. Nothing Phone 1 is entering India's already-crowded smartphone market where it is looking to create a difference with the LED lights, a flamboyant design and near-stock Android OS.
