Nothing Unveils All-New Nothing OS 3.0 Update, Here's How It Will Be Different Than Its Predecessor
The software design lead at Nothing, Yuri Levin, said, “OS 3.0 is the OS that they (Nothing) always wanted to make.”
Nothing has unveiled the Nothing OS (3) based on Android 15 with some custom changes, which include the company's own gallery app. The best part is that this Nothing OS 3.0 update with Android 15 will be arriving on all Nothing smartphones. Nothing will first rollout this update to Nothing Phone 2a and Nothing Phone 2a Plus users. Then after some time, it will roll out the same to Nothing Phone 2 and Nothing Phone 1. Nothing OS 3.0 open beta will become available from the start of October, and the stable version of the same update will be rolled out later in December this year.
Nothing has made some fundamental changes in Nothing OS 3.0 as compared to Nothing OS 2.0 which might leave you with the impression of your phone becoming a lot different than what it used to be.

What Will Nothing OS 3.0 Update Bring?
The latest update introduces a fresh dot animation that appears across the lock screen, quick settings, and home screen. With OS 3.0, the company has refined its design by reducing the use of N-Dot fonts, giving it a cleaner appearance, though these fonts can still be seen during charging, fingerprint animations, and within the weather app.
Nothing OS 3.0 also brings several new features, including updated widgets and a highly customisable lock screen with new shortcuts, widgets, and clock faces. The quick settings have undergone a revamp as well, making them more customisable, similar to iOS 18's control center. Additionally, the OS introduces a smart app drawer, which works similarly to iOS’s app library, automatically categorising apps and using AI to display frequently used ones at the top of the screen.
Another key feature debuting with OS 3.0 is Nothing's own photo app, Nothing Gallery. The company claims it is 1.4 seconds faster than Google Photos when opening a photo directly from the camera. The app also uses AI-based image segmentation to highlight important objects within photos. In the near future, Nothing Gallery will include features like automatic image categorisation, AI upscaling, super-resolution, AI image generation, and more.
