MWC 2024: Tecno Showcases Innovative Rollable Phone But Is It Coming To India?

While the concept phone is very intriguing, its practicality is limited as it is still in the development stage.

During this year's Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, handset maker Tecno showcased an innovative rollable phone. The device features a display that slides open, providing a larger canvas for content consumption. Unlike conventional foldable phones, the rollable phone's display unfurls from the device's body, resembling the action of unrolling a scroll.

While the concept phone is very intriguing, its practicality is limited as it is still in the development stage.

Notably, last year, Tecno introduced a rollable phone concept named the Phantom Ultimate. Initially, it was merely a concept showcased in demo videos. However, the company has since developed actual prototypes, showcasing them at the MWC. We had the opportunity to get hands-on experience with the Ultimate as well as a few other intriguing ideas in development at Tecno HQ.

At first glance, it resembles any typical smartphone, featuring a familiar 6.55-inch OLED display. However, its unique functionality is activated with the press of a button. Should you desire a larger display akin to a tablet, simply press the dedicated button, and the screen expands horizontally to 7.11 inches. This provides a broader viewing area, allowing for seamless multitasking and immersive entertainment such as movie-watching, says a report by Digit.

As this remains a concept device, its release date is not imminent. The device is nt likely to make its way to India as well. The company continues to refine the design and other aspects to ensure it becomes a fully functional device for consumers. Although there's no specific timeline for its commercial launch, representatives at Tecno's demonstration booth hinted that the second generation Tecno foldable phone could debut in Q3 of this year, reports say.

However, this information is not officially confirmed, so it's advisable to approach it with caution.

Notably, Motorola also seeks to distinguish itself from the competition with its latest innovation, the Adaptive Display concept phone, was revealed at MWC 2024. This Android device elevates the foldable concept with its versatility and shape-shifting capabilities. Instead of merely folding like a book, the Adaptive Display can flex into various shapes to accommodate diverse requirements. Its most remarkable feature is its ability to wrap around the wrist, transforming into a 6.9-inch smartwatch.
