Touchscreen Issues In iPhone 16, Say Early Users On Reddit

Apple's newest iPhone lineup, the iPhone 16 series, has only been available for a short time, yet some early users are reporting touchscreen problems.

Apple's newest iPhone lineup, the iPhone 16 series, has only been available for a short time, yet some early users are reporting touchscreen problems. According to several posts on Reddit, the issue seems to occur when users rest their thumb or finger near the Camera Control area on the display. When attempting to interact with the screen using the other hand, the touchscreen becomes unresponsive on the iPhone 16.

One Reddit user describes the issue in detail: "Try it yourself—place your right thumb on the highlighted area, near the Camera Control, and then attempt to swipe with your left hand. In System Settings, you won’t be able to tap or swipe, and on the homepage, while you might be able to tap into apps, swiping is still impossible. It seems to be more of a software bug, likely tied to palm rejection technology.”

Apple has not provided details about the purpose of this recent software update, it does not appear to be targeted at resolving this particular issue.

Notably, the iPhone 16 series was officially released in India on September 20, sparking high demand and leading to long lines in major cities such as Mumbai and Delhi, where Apple opened its official stores last year. In a growing trend, quick-commerce platforms like Blinkit and BB Now have teamed up with Apple retailers to offer rapid delivery of the iPhones, allowing customers to receive their new devices at home within minutes of placing an order.

Meanwhile, Apple’s AI features will be initially available on several devices, including the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, as well as iPads and Macs powered by M1 chips or later. According to Apple, users will need to have their device and Siri language set to US English to access these AI tools right from the start.

The company also noted that Apple Intelligence will be expanded to support more devices and languages by 2025. These additional languages will include Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese.
