According to a new rumour, Apple is mulling to incorporate the Action button across all four models in the purported iPhone 16 series. While the mute switch successor was initially exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models this year, it appears that Apple intends to extend it to the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus next year. Additionally, rumours also suggest that the Action button on the iPhone 16 series will be capacitive, employing force sensor feedback similar to the TouchID sensors on older iPhones and the Force Touch trackpad found on MacBooks, according to MacRumors.
The new Action button is likely to come with the iPhone SE 4 too, which is said to debut in 2025.
The report also suggests that unlike the conventional mechanical buttons found on the volume and power keys, the updated Action Button will adopt capacitive-style functionality.
Based on internal documentation, the MacRumors report noted, enhanced Action button will incorporate a force sensor to detect pressure changes, along with "tact-switching functionality," although the specific details of the latter remain unclear. The upcoming "Capture" button slated for the iPhone 16 series is also expected to comprise the same functionality as the upgraded Action button.
Meanwhile, in a recent blog post, famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities revealed that Apple is poised to integrate a tetraprism camera into the iPhone 16 Pro in the coming year. In the iPhone 15 lineup, only the iPhone 15 Pro Max was equipped with a new telephoto lens boasting up to 5x optical zoom and a focal length of 120mm. The iPhone 15 Pro featured a 12-megapixel telephoto camera offering 3x zoom, aligning with Kuo's previous assertions.
Furthermore, Kuo suggests that Apple and Huawei are set to become the fastest-growing brands in global periscope camera smartphone shipments in 2024. Largan is expected to be the primary supplier of periscope lenses for both Apple and Huawei in 2024. Notably, Huawei's upcoming P70 series is anticipated to feature periscope cameras.
