iPhone 15 Series To Bid Adieu To Lightning Cable In Favour Of USB Type-C Charging?

According to the first look of an alleged port attached to flexible PCB assemblies, we can say that the iPhone 15 series would come with USB-C instead of a lightning cable.

Years after Android smartphones, Apple may finally switch to USB-C for charging on its iPhone models. The tech giant is likely to start with iPhone 15 lineup that is said to launch this fall. According to the first look of an alleged port attached to flexible PCB assemblies, we can say that the iPhone 15 series would come with USB-C instead of a lightning cable. According to leaked images, posted by leaksters @John011235 and @lipilipsi on X, the USB type-C connector ports attached to the flexible PCB component parts would feature in the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus.

This backs previous claims made by famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo and Bloomberg's Mark Gurman who have mentioned that Apple would bid adieu to lightning cable in favour of USB-C.

To recall, in October 2022, the European Union (EU) voted and passed rules to introduce a common charger for small electronic devices like smartphones and tablets, by the end of 2024. The passing of the law in the EU meant Apple would be forced to bid adieu to the lightning iPhone port which it has been introducing to date in its iPhone models, including last year's iPhone 14 series.

As per a recent report by Gurman, the Apple 15 Pro will come with big camera upgrades, ultra-thin bezels and USB-C instead of lightning charging. Apple is likely redesigning the iPhones internally so they are more repairable like last year's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus.

To recall, there was a chassis redesign in the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus and these were the first iPhone models that could be opened from both the front and back, after 2011's iPhone 4S. The chassis redesign did not extend to the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max models, at least for authorised repairs.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 Pro models are likely to come with a minimum storage of 256GB, says a new leak from China. The maximum storage for the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max models would go up to 2TB, the leak has added. According to a supplier, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are confirmed to be available with double the maximum storage capacity as last year's iPhone 14 Pro models, as spotted by news aggregator account "yeux1122" on the Korean Naver blog.
