Samsung Galaxy S24 Base Model May Launch With UFS 3.1 Storage

The standard Galaxy S24 may incorporate a somewhat slower UFS 3.1 (Universal Flash Storage), in a potential cost-cutting move by the South Korean handset maker, a new leak suggests.

The launch of Samsung Galaxy S24 series is expected to be among the early flagship launches of 2024. The entire lineup is rumoured to introduce new chipsets and designs. Among other enhancements, the standard Galaxy S24 may incorporate a somewhat slower UFS 3.1 (Universal Flash Storage), in a potential cost-cutting move by the South Korean handset maker, a new leak suggests. Speculation is rife that Samsung is aiming to maintain the prices of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in line with their Galaxy S23 counterparts.

According to a recent post on South Korea's Naver blog , the 128GB model of the Galaxy S24 is expected to feature UFS 3.1 storage, while the rest of the lineup is set to incorporate UFS 4.0 storage. Notably, UFS 3.1 is slower compared to UFS 4.0, which is based on Samsung's 7 V-NAND memory.

The anticipated launch date for the Galaxy S24 series is January 17, with likely integrated AI features and slight design adjustments. The smartphones are likely to be equipped with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC and Exynos 2400 SoC, depending on the region.

Samsung introduced UFS 4.0 in May last year, which boasts faster speeds and enhanced power efficiency, with sequential read speeds reaching up to 4,200MB per second and sequential write speeds of up to 2,800MB per second. Presently, many flagship devices utilise either UFS 3.1 or UFS 4.0 storage.

The Samsung Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra made their debut in the US at prices of $799 (approximately Rs. 65,500), $999 (approximately Rs. 81,900), and $1199 (approximately Rs. 98,300).

Notable tipster Ahmed Qwaider recently shared details on the X platform (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the titanium frame featured in the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is anticipated to exhibit 56 per cent greater durability compared to the Armor Aluminum utilised in its predecessors, namely the Galaxy S22 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra.

This shift signifies a departure from the prior aluminium frame, as Samsung opts for a more robust frame in its forthcoming generation. Apple also adopted a titanium frame for the iPhone 15 Pro series, asserting enhanced strength as a result. According to the tipster's information, there is a possibility of the premium variant featuring 2,600 nits peak brightness. Furthermore, the smartphone is expected to come equipped with the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, coupled with an expanded vapour chamber as an essential component of the cooling system, designed to keep the chip's temperature 1.9 times cooler.
