Foxconn Suspends Operations At 2 Production Facilities In China

Apple's contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group has suspended operations at two of its factories in China after new cases of coronavirus were reported on site.

New Delhi: Apple's contract manufacturer Foxconn Technology Group has suspended operations at two of its factories in China after new cases of coronavirus were reported on site, the media has reported. The two facilities that were shut are located located in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, a small city between Shanghai and the Suzhou as China battles the worst Covid-19 outbreak since it began in 2020, said a report by South China Morning Post.

According to a report by news agcnecy Reuters, operations at both the Foxconn plants were suspended on Wednesday last week, and its staffers were confined to dormitories inside. “The Zhengzhou campus is still operating normally and the site continues to comply with the government measures to curb the spread of the virus," Foxconn was quoted as saying in a statement.

However, Foxconn is not hit by the suspension of operations at both the facilities, added the Reuters report as the plant is not a major supplier for Apple products and Taiwanese chip maker Foxconn was able to shift production to its other facilities.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a report said that Apple has hit a roadblock in the production of MacBook Pros and the delivery dates have been postponed to June in the wake of the Covid-19-induced lockdowns imposed in China. Buyers of the latest high-end MacBook models in the US are seeing delivery dates delayed to June while the delivery date of the lower-end 14-inch MacBook Pro has been delayed to May 26.

The delay in shipments of MacBook models highlights the tech giant's struggles to keep up with the production and supply chain hurdles amid another wave of Covid-19 as China pursues a zero-tolerance policy for outbreaks. More than 30 Taiwanese firms, including Apple's contract manufacturers for laptops such as Quanta Computer Inc., have paused production in China because of Covid-19-induced lockdowns.
