Industry insiders and tech enthusiasts are abuzz with speculation that the iPad Pro and iPad Air are slated for significant updates. Sources close to the matter suggest the iPad Pro will likely incorporate the new M3 chips, while the iPad Air could see an upgrade to the M2 chips. There's also talk about the potential introduction of OLED screens for the iPad Pro and an expanded size option for the iPad Air, possibly a new 12.9-inch model with a mini-LED display.
The last refresh of the iPad line was approximately a year and a half ago, raising both consumer and investor expectations for the upcoming reveal. Additional leaks hint at the unveiling of a new version of the Magic Keyboard designed specifically for the updated iPad Pro, and a re-engineered Apple Pencil, which may include modern features such as Find My functionality and interchangeable tips for varied user experiences.
The May 7 event will mirror the format of Apple’s previous virtual event in October, titled 'Scary Fast,' with no physical attendance being required. This digital approach is a nod to the ongoing trend of virtual product launches within the tech industry.
Rumours also suggest enhancements to the Apple Pencil, like introducing a new "Squeeze" gesture control. Furthermore, there is considerable excitement about the revamped Magic Keyboard, reportedly featuring a durable aluminium frame that enhances the utility of the iPad Pro, potentially positioning it closer to a laptop experience.
As the event date approaches, the tech world is eagerly awaiting what could be significant leaps in Apple’s tablet technology, especially after a lengthy period since the last major updates to the iPad Air and iPad Pro lines.
