iPhone 16 Pro 'Made In India' Box Surfaces, Corroborates Local Production
The label of the purported iPhone 16 Pro box bears the text "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in India."
With recent reports suggesting that Apple is set to broaden its manufacturing operations in India, and has begun assembling the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models in the country, an unverified image has surfaced on Chinese social media platform Weibo, purportedly showing a label from an iPhone 16 Pro box. The label of the purported iPhone 16 Pro box bears the text "Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in India." While the authenticity of this leak cannot be confirmed, it corresponds with the circulating rumours about India-manufactured iPhone Pro models.

This marks a significant expansion of Apple's production strategy, as it will be the first time the tech giant manufactures its high-end Pro models outside of China. Foxconn, one of Apple's primary manufacturing partners, has begun training workers at its facility in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, in preparation for this new production line. This development aligns with Apple's ongoing efforts to diversify its supply chain and reduce reliance on Chinese manufacturing.
It is important to note that current information suggests only the Pro and Pro Max variants of the iPhone 16 will be assembled in India, not the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models. Initial production is expected to focus on meeting export demands, with local Indian production ramping up shortly after the launch.
Pegatron, Tata To Join Foxconn In Aseembling iPhones 16 Pro In India
In addition to Foxconn, other Apple iPhine manufacturing partners in India, including Pegatron and Tata Group, are anticipated to join the production of iPhone 16 Pro models in the near future. This expansion builds upon Apple's existing manufacturing presence in India, which began with the production of iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus models last year.
Given the premium pricing of iPhones in India, which results in moderate local demand, it is likely that a significant portion of the India-assembled iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max units will be exported to markets such as the United States, Middle East, and Europe. This move represents Apple's continued commitment to increasing its manufacturing footprint in India, potentially benefiting from government incentives and accessing a growing consumer market while diversifying its global supply chain.
