Apple iPhone 16 May Have The Same Camera Design As iPhone 12

The primary camera design on the iPhone 16 would be in a vertical layout.

With rumours about Apple iPhone 16 series already coming in, the latest report suggests that the iPhone 16 may borrow the same camera design as the iPhone 12. The primary camera design on the iPhone 16 would be in a vertical layout, says a report by MacRumors, citing a tip by Twitter account @URedditor. The same camera layout design is likely to be seen on the iPhone 16 Plus as well.

To recall, Apple iPhone 12 came with a vertically stacked camera design at the back while diagonally-arranged rear camera lenses were introduced with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini. Last year's iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus also carried the same diagonally placed rear cameras, which is expected to be introduced in this year's iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus too.

However, it is unclear why the Cupertino, California-based tech giant might be planning this change beyond aesthetics. When the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini launched, Apple simply said "a redesigned rear camera layout with diagonally arranged lenses enables the advanced dual-camera system," so perhaps Apple has figured out a way to fit camera components within a vertical orientation again, the report added.

Meanwhile, according to a recent leak pertaining to the upcoming Apple iPhone 15 series, the upcoming iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 models are likely to arrive with 48MP cameras, similar to what we have seen in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. The iPhone 15 series is likely to be launched globally and in India in September. Apple is likely to launch four iPhone models this fall.

Apart from two standard models, Apple may also launch two iPhone Pro models this year.

Meanwhile, homegrown conglomerate Tata Group could become the fourth assembler for Apple iPhone 15 series in India. The other assemblers of the iPhone 15 lineup will include, biggest Apple contract manufacturer Foxconn along with Luxshare and Pegatron while the fourth manufacturer will be Tata Group, the first local Indian manufacturer, according to market research firm TrendForce.
